Who?Who is Susan Hamson?

Up until now I have refrained from discussing my background because this page was created as nothing more than an opinion; an observation, if you will, of the way in which society embraces sexist stereotypes and has an unshakeable belief that such social constructions are inherent human qualities. I have never felt the need to buttress my opinions with claims of expertise on any level (unlike some mail-order Ph.D.s who will remain nameless for the moment).

I still don't feel the need to bolster my opinion with claims of education or experience (or to "explain" what I do on this page), but next to getting requests for reading alternatives, this has been the most frequently asked question to date. So, for those of you who are interested, here is a little about me and my educational background.

B.A. in Historical Studies, Richard Stockton College of New Jersey
M.A. in American History, Rutgers University

I am an archivist at Princeton University, I teach ancient history at a local college, and I do a lot of freelance writing. I'd give you a list of my "likes" and "dislikes," but I'm saving that for my one-woman show on Broadway.

Where?Where can I find quality books on relationships?

The Rebuttal from Uranus merely puts forth an opinion. The job is to question and not claim to be yet another "expert" in that self-help jungle out there. However, this question has been asked so often that Kathleen Trigiani, an ardent support of The Rebuttal, has compiled a list of wonderful resources for your perusal. Read Alternatives to Mars and Venus to learn that there is intelligent life roaming the universe. There's something in there for everybody--unless you're seeking more of Gray's "just add water" genre.

What? What is your main objection to John Gray?

Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus and its many spin-offs are--at their very core--sexist, patronizing, male-centered invectives which do nothing more than perpetuate long-held negative (not to mention wholly unjust) gender stereotypes. They are nothing more than the personal opinions of one individual that are surreptitiously passed off as researched fact.

When? When are you going to let up?

When a woman becomes Pope.
