Purpose: |
Provision of bitterness and hop aroma via addition to boiling wort. |
Description: |
Free flowing cylindrical pellets with dimensions approximately 10mm - 15mm x 6 mm (length x diameter). Bulk density is approximately 550 kgm3. |
Analysis: |
Analysis of the pellet will be dependent upon the hop variety and its source. Guaranteed yield of alpha acids during processing is >98%. |
Blending: |
Blends of different varieties and/or growths can be produced according to customer requirements. |
Packaging: |
Sealed under vacuum or inert gas (nitrogen or carbon dioxide) in laminated food grade polyethylene/metallised polyester contained in cardboard boxes. The net weight of pellets is usually 25 kgs. All packaging to conform to customer specifications. |
Product Use: |
Direct replacement of cone hops in kettle. For maximum utilisation of bittering potential, pellets should be boiled for as long as is practicable (90 minutes). If a late hop type aroma is desired, then an addition of pellets should be made just before cast or to the whirlpool. |
Storage: |
Preferably store unopened packs in a cool place, best temperature 3oC - 6oC to maintain maximum bittering potential. Once opened, packs of Type 90 pellets should be used as soon as possible. |
Safety: |
No known health hazard in normal use. If dust is generated in use or during addition then this may be a slight irritant to the eyes and respiratory system (in this case it is advisable to wear a dust mask). Hop powder is a combustible material. |
