Purpose:

Where beer is brewed for packaging in clear or green bottles and requires to be light stable , bitterness must be derived solely from isomerised products. It is most efficient to add reduced pre-isomerised extracts post fermentation. In such cases it may be necessary to add hop material to the kettle to promote normal boiling characteristics. Material added to the kettle must contain no alpha acid or normal isomerised alpha acid or light-struck flavour may develop in the beer. Purified Beta fraction has been developed to meet this requirement.

Description:

Derived from Pure Resin Extract and contains most components, such as essential oils, fats, waxes and beta acid. The actual composition depends upon hop variety.

Analysis:

Contains approximately 4% - 20% essential oils, 30% - 60% beta acid, the remainder is mostly soft resins, <5% water, <0.3% alpha acid.

Packaging:

Typically 200 kg drums, other sizes can be specified.

Storage:

Stable for at least two years if kept unopened in the original packaging at 3 - 6^oC.

Safety:

No known health hazard in normal use. Non toxic in normal use. If material comes into contact with skin, wash off with soap and water. In the case of eye contamination, irrigate with plenty of water. If symptoms persist, seek further medical attention as necessary. Spilled material should be scooped up and the residue removed with hot water and detergent. Hop extract is combustible.
