PURE HOP OIL

Purpose:

Provision of "dry hop" character post-fermentation.

Description:

Pale green/yellow mobile oil obtained by steam distillation of CO2 Oil Rich Extract.

Analysis:

100% essential oil of hops. Composition of the oil is dependent upon variety.

Packaging:

Generally in brown glass containers of 1 litre volume. Other packaging available if required. Cannot be transported in "plastic" containers.

Product Use:

Pure Hop Oil is not readily soluble in beer "as is" and, therefore, must be dispersed in a suitable carrier for dosing. Two options are available:-

a.

The required volume of oil is dispersed in nine volumes of food grade ethanol or iso-propyl alcohol by vigorous shaking or mixing. An unstable dispersion results which must be added to a small volume of beer immediately and thoroughly mixed. This beer is then blended in with the untreated bulk.

b.

Emulsification using food grade emulsifiers. This aqueous emulsion is then metered into flowing beer. Refer to data sheets covering Hop Oil Emulsion.

Addition rates of Pure Hop Oil will normally be in the range 0.5-3.0 ppm dependent upon the intensity of aroma and taste required and the characteristics of the base beer.

Storage:

Unopened containers should be stored cool, preferably at 3° C - 6oC. Avoid long term storage of partly used containers.

Safety:

No known health hazard in normal use. Non toxic in normal use. If material comes into contact with skin, wash off with soap and water. In the case of eye contamination, irrigate with plenty of water. If symptoms persist, seek further medical attention as necessary. Spillages should be absorbed using a suitable material and the residue removed with hot soapy water.

Flash point is 59° C.
