BETA FRACTION
![]()
Purpose: |
Beta fraction can be added to the kettle if necessary to control and normalise boiling characteristics, where a greater part of the hop grist is added via isomerised products. It may also be added just before the end of boil to impart hop aroma. |
Description: |
Derived from Pure Resin Extract and contains most components, such as essential oils, fats, waxes and beta acid. The actual composition depends upon hop variety. |
Analysis: |
Contains approximately 4% - 20% essential oils, 30% - 60% beta acid, the remainder is mostly soft resins, <5% water, <5% iso-alpha acid. |
Packaging: |
Typically 200 kg drums, other sizes can be specified. |
Product Use: |
If used to control boil characteristics or to provide non iso-alpha acid derived hop flavour, the Beta fraction is added at the kettle at the commencement of boil. For hop aroma characteristics the extract is added just before cast/kettle transfer. Actual dosages depend on many factors, but particularly on the intensity and type of hop aroma desired. Wigan Products Ltd would be pleased to advise on specific enquiries. |
Storage: |
Stable for at least two years if kept unopened in the original packaging at 3 - 6oC. |
Safety: |
No known health hazard in normal use. Non toxic in normal use. If material comes into contact with skin, wash off with soap and water. In the case of eye contamination, irrigate with plenty of water. If symptoms persist, seek further medical attention as necessary. Spilled material should be scooped up and the residue removed with hot water and detergent. Hop extract is combustible. |
