Reviews of
THE SECRETS OF ACTION SCREENWRITING

"I suggested Bill Martell title this book SECRETS OF HOW TO TAKE ALL THAT FERSHULUGINNER SCREENWRITING THEORY AND APPLY IT TO THE ACTION OF ACTUALLY WRITING A SCREENPLAY, but apparently it was too long to fit on the cover. Too bad, because that is what SECRETS OF ACTION SCREENWRITING really is: the best book on the practical nuts-and-bolts mechanics of writing a screenplay I've ever read."

- Ted Elliott, co writer of THE MASK OF ZORRO (with Terry Rossio - who also likes the book).

And on the Wordplay message boards on Saturday, 29 May 1999, at 11:53 a.m. Ted said this:

"Check out Bill Martel's book SECRETS OF ACTION SCREENWRITING. It's not so much a book on theory (although he does cover a lot of that) as a book on practical application of theory (and much of it applies to movies other than action movies. In fact, a better title would be SECRETS OF SCREENWRITING AND THEIR APPLICATION VIS A VIS THE ACTION GENRE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE ACTION GENRE), but that's a bit unweildy)(if you check out any of his posts, he includes a link to his website)."

"William C. Martell knows the action genre inside out. Read and learn from an expert!"

- Mark Verheiden, screenwriter of TIME COP and THE MASK.

"My only complaint with SECRETS OF ACTION SCREENWRITING is that wasn't around when I was starting out. The damned thing would have saved me years of trial and error!"

- Ken Wheat, co-writer (with his brother Jim) of PITCH BLACK and THE FLY 2.

"This book is dangerous. I feel threatened by it."

- Roger Avary, Oscar winning screenwriter of PULP FICTION.

"Finally a screenwriting book written by a working professional screenwriter. Experience, not theory. Bill Martell really knows his stuff. He grabs you by the military fatigues and shows you how to write a tight, fast screenplay."

- John Hill, screenwriter, QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER.

"There's an art to writing for guys like Chuck Norris - thanks to Bill Martell's book I was prepared."

- Genia Shipman, TV writer, WALKER: SONS OF THUNDER.

"The King of the Action Screenplay finally shares his "tools" for successfully writing one of Hollywood's favorite genres. Martell is the master and this book is not only packed with info, it's a hell of a good read."

- Lou Grantt, The Hollywood Scriptwriter.

"A wealth of choice idea. This book covers all the major factors to consider when writing action movies... or even just action scenes. Worth every penny!"

- Nadine White, Screenwriter's Homepage.

"William C. Martell is the Robert Towne of made for cable movies."

- Washington Post reviewer David Nuttycombe.
