NORRCA Paved Oval Series Race #4Story and Photos by Joe Myers
Saturday, May 30
NORRCA's Paved Oval Series made its second swing back
to the high banks of the Domingues Hills Velodrome in
Carson CA. For a change, the threat of rain was gone. With
"back to normal" So. Cal weather reaching into the high 70's to
low 80's this help produce some good speeds.
Several drivers suffered major car damage, when their luck ran out
including John "Dr J" Ligons who totalled a car in practice friday
only to come back with a new car, and total it while leading the
Expert Mod. A main when a spun car collected him. Roger Pane,
also suffered a total loss in a qualifier. He had already set TQ
in an earlier run but had to build a whole new car for the main with
nothing salvageable from the mess. Roger later went on to win the
Expert Mod A main.
Everytime NORRCA comes to this track, the speeds pick up a little.
Expert Modified is pushing nearly 22 laps, and with still one more
series race here before this years Winterfest the 22 lap mark
will probably fall this year.

Roger Pane "Takes Race #4"
Expert Modified Roger Pane set the qualifying mark, but it was John Logons who jumped out to the early lead, with his spotter
keeping him in line just enough to maintain the lead. Ligons weekend woes continued when he collided with a dead car on the back stretch, this ultimately handed the race to
Pane who easily jumped into the front spot and never relinquished the lead. Finishing behind Pane was Frank Killam, with Chris Bowers, Kyle Mohan and Gary Hamilton making
up the top five.
Myers takes Nastruck
Modified Nastruck The trucks had a small turnout for this days race, but it was Myers continuing his qualifying run. Taking TQ honors for the forth straight series race, Myers went on to win the feature beating out Tom Kendall and JR Sitman.
