1999 NORRCA Paved Oval Series   Race #4
Photos and story by Joe Myers

PERRIS.jpg (55070 bytes)

[Perris CA]   The fourth race in NORRCA's Paved Oval Series was held at the "House of Pain", in Perris California.  The Perris R/C Raceway has been recently reopened after sitting quiet for a few years.  G.L. Cooper took over this approx. 250 ft. asphalt oval.  Perris R/C holds weekly racing events, see the PERRIS page for more info about this track.

While local racing at Perris still has some 6 cell classes, the NORRCA event was all 4 cell.

SPORTSMAN STOCK

Keizer takes the Win
In the Sportsman Stock class it was KEITH BROWN taking the TQ honors running a 43/4:05.92 beating out Craig Kaplan by nearly a lap.  TODD KEIZER took the A-main victory with a time that would have earned him the bonus TQ points had he pulled it off in qualifying running a 44/4:02.96 to BROWNS consistant 43/4:05, finishing third was Nick Sava.  Rounding out the TOP 5 were Sam Chaloupka and Marvin Avila.

EXPERT STOCK

Trace Boden Survives to Win!
Setting the TQ pace in the Expert Stock Class was CHRIS NEWMAN, he out did second place qualifier Arnold Brittain by a whole lap running a 46/4:02.59 to Brittain's 45/4:02.11.  The "B" main was won by Chris Smith, while the "A" main was a handful from the start with Bryan Blaser's car not making it through the first turn.   Trace Boden won the race with Larry Ruby finishing Second.  Third place went to Nic Case with Paul Cathey and Carlo Albera rounding off the top 5 spots.

SPORTSMAN MODIFIED

Cortney was Able to FLY
Cortney Able blistered his way around the "House of Pain" proving all his practice here really paid off.  Cortney set the qualifying pace with a 49/4:05.00 out qualifying Felipe Avila by almost 4 laps. Avila who ran a 45/4:02.11 was nearly a lap over the 3rd qualifier.  Able broke free with a hole shot and was never in contention for the win finishing with a 49/4:03.22 in the "A" main.   John Hobson won the battle for 2nd spot over Felipe Avila, with James Albera and T.J. Kendall completing the top 5 spots.

EXPERT MODIFIED

Daryl Silva takes Expert "A"
Daryl Silva took the TQ spot shutting the door on Erik Steenhoven.  Silva ran a 52/4:02.71 to Steenhoven's 50/4:02.11.  Silva went on the WIN the "A" main holding off Nic Case and Steenhoven. Christopher Bowers finished 4th, with John "Dr. J." Ligons bringing in 5th spot.

Modified NASTRUCK

Kendall FEELS the "Pain"
Arnold Brittain set the TQ pace for the Mod. Trucks in PERRIS, but it was last years series Runner Up TOM KENDALL who felt the Least amount of "PAIN" and took the win.   The trucks seemed to battle for handling and consistancy at the "House of Pain" .  Kendal took the victory over Brittain and last years series Champion Joe Myers, with James Albera finishing 4th.
