Race #1
Story and Photos by Joe Myers
Saturday, Feb. 20
The NORRCA 1999 Paved Oval Series kicks off it's season at the Velodrome in Encino CA.
This is race ONE of a Seven races series, and one of only two Velodrome stops on
this years series. With NORRCA concentrating on bringing paved oval racing back to
short tracks and parking lot types of tracks, the series will be made mostly of these
types of surfaces.
This is the first "OFFICIAL" 4 Cell race by NORRCA, and the results were very
impressive to most. Speeds were good, and drivers who never thought they would enjoy
it commented how supprisingly quick the cars actually were.

Roger Pane "Makin'
4cell MOVE!"
Expert Modified
Roger Pane, who has been the master of this Velodrome in 6 cell kept up his winning ways.
He blistered the track in qualifying and ran the only 23 lap runs of the weekend,
turning a 23/4:05.30 in qualifying. Pane also went on to run a 23/ 4:07.30 in the
main holding of former world champion Tony Neisinger, who ran a 22/4:00.84. Making
up the rest of the top five spots were Frank Killam, Gary Hamilton and Mike Dyer.

not. It was a bit of a struggle for him most of the day. But, in the end it
was Sava who wound up with the TQ with a 18/4:04.74, and the race win. Nick beat
Michael Smith by nearly 5 seconds, while Smith had Craig Kaplan and Joe Camargo breathing
down his neck. Finishing 5th was Todd Keizer.
