13 OKTOBER: VEENDAM - FC ZWOLLE
Today the tenth game of the season: away at Veendam, unfortunately
I wasn't able to go, but there was a match report on SBS 6 action-news
Zwolle came 1-0 behind after 18 minutes but they were able to get
the score up to 1-2 before half-time, by goals from Arjan Bosschaart in
the 22th minute and a penalty by Claus Boekweg (29th) after Jan Bruin was
pulled down by a veendam-defender.
It could (should have been 1-3 at half-time but a zwolle-goal was
disallowed for offside (well I sure didn't see it on tv, as didn't the
reporter) but referee Helmstrijd and his friend the linesman decided that
the goal didn't count. FC Zwolle's second coach Robert Maaskant got so
angry about this that he was send away with a red card.
In the second half referee Helmstrijd stopped the game after Veendam
supporters had been shouting hoerenjong (son of a bitch) to him, after
the fans were spoken to by veendam-players and all was quiet again the
game restarted. In the 80th minute Meyer scored the 2-2. This result means
that FC Zwolle drops one place in the division standings, but they can
drop some more places depending on the results of some other games later
this week.
On the press conference after the game FC Zwolle coach Jan Everse
stated that it is a shame that Helmstrijd is allowed to referee at this
level. (I think that can be said about some more referees)
