27 SEPTEMBER: FC ZWOLLE - EINDHOVEN
Another win for FC Zwolle, against 4th placed Eindhoven, both teams
made it a nice game, with chances for both teams. The most chances were
for FC Zwolle, after only eight minutes an Eindhoven-defender was only
able to keep Jan Bruin from scoring by hitting the ball away with his hand
before Bruin could head it in. The given penalty was taken by Claus Boekweg,
but was stopped by Van der Sleen, the goalkeeper that was in good form
this night. After a few good chances on both sides it was Harry Sinkgraven
in the last minute of the first half, who shot the ball in from a long
distance, via the post it went in and Zwolle could start the second half
with an 1-0 advantage. In the second half Zwolle let Eindhoven attack so
they would be able to get more room for counters, this tactic worked, Eindhoven
wasn't able to break the zwolle defensive wall and zwolle got some really
good chances to decide the game But all shots went wide or were saved,
Sami Ristila came closest to a goal when his shot hit the post. Through
this result FC Zwolle closed in on first place AZ-Alkmaar because they
lost against Dordrecht, Zwolle now is just one point behind and the only
team that is still undefeated. Although Jan Bruin didn't score, he still
is leagetopscorer. There were 3150 visitors.
AWAY GAME
28 FEBRUARI: EINDHOVEN - FC ZWOLLE 1-0
Another loss, as I wasn't able to go there I can only tell what I've read in the newspaper and saw on television, Zwolle had some good chances in the first half.
Jan Bruin came close to scoring, he had already passed eindhoven goalkeeper Van der Sleen, but the ball was cleared of the line by an eindhoven defender, there were also chances for Sieme Zijm en Marco Roelofsen.
Eindhoven made 1-0 in the 33th minute with a goal by Juha Jussila, He got the ball when Zwolle- keeper Werner Kooistra, who played as an substitute for the sick Henk Timmer, tried to kick away a backpass by Kromheer but he hit the ball wrong and played it straight into the feets of Jussila.
In the second half Zwolle attackers weren't able to cause Eindhoven real trouble, but Eindhoven also wasn't able to get any real chances to decide the game, so Zwolle had hope on an equalizer till the last minute.
Although this game was a lot better than the previous game against Excelsior, Zwolle will have a lot of work to do to reach the "nacompetition"(play-offs). Something Eindhoven can acchieve next week if they win the homegame against Heracles.
