Flow Diagram of EPLEX(tm) Digital Preset System

In today’s CTP Systems, at the same time an imposed plate is created, a lower resolution proofing file called “CIP3” is automatically generated and placed automatically in a "hot folder". The Tobias EPLEX™ System monitors this "hot folder" and “scans” the CIP3 data file and then sends the pertinent data

right to the console of your press.  At your press the data is converted into Percent Coverage for each keyzone. The EPLEX system then adjusts the press's ink keys so that they are preset into the correct position for the job in makeready.

At press side, flexible user interface is provided by the PSM™ or
Tobias TouchConsole™, a self-contained industrial computer/touch screen.

PRINTERS CAN SAVE TIME, MATERIALS

The EPLEX Press Preset System represents an extraordinary advancement in an area of great potential savings: PRESS MAKEREADY. Use the DXP™ Digital File Reader and PSM™ Press Interface to predict optimal fountain preset values for each plate, on most any press, quickly and accurately...and save enormous amounts of press time and materials.

ACCURATE IMAGE AREA CALCULATION

The DXP™ File Reader reads digital CIP3 files created by your computer-to-plate (CTP) system to determine image coverage for each plate in a job. This coverage data is then stored in the Tobias Job Data Server, where it may be selected by the PSM™ Press Side Modules on your press console. In addition, the DXP will also accept job files from a Tobias Plate Scanner. The DXP software automatically extracts job ID information, such as job and form number, color and web number, from the preview file job name and from the data contained in the preview file.

INK KEY PRESET

A local area network (LAN) is used to communicate between the DXP and the PSM™ press side module in the press room. When a job is ready to go on press, a job file is selected by the PSM and is converted into ink key coverage data matching that press. This data is further processed to give ink key fountain preset values which are sent to the press by serial link or floppy disk. Sending key coverage data directly to the press saves valuable time and eliminates key setting errors.

MULTI-PRESS OPERATIONS

Each of these is configured for its own press and stores information on the printing characteristics of that press.  This data is used to customize the preset calculation to optimize system performance.

PRESS INTERFACE

The EPLEX System interfaces with most modern presses and third-party retrofit systems via the Tobias PSM Press Interface as determined by site

requirements. EPLEX supplies digital preset data for a wide range of pressroom applications including web, sheetfed, heatset and non-heatset.

IMMEDIATE PAYBACK

The Tobias EPLEX Press Preset System, by predicting optimal press fountain key presets, saves expensive makeready time and reduces paper waste. During start-up, an experienced pressman can use EPLEX to accomplish real savings of time and materials - up to an hour per run, and thousands of press sheets. For printers, producing saleable sheets earlier in the press run has become a proven means to achieve:

• greater profits
• increased capacity
• faster makeready
• reduced waste
