Walt, G3NYY and I operated from the Pelamare Apartments which are run by Manos, SV9ANJ. Manos runs an apartment complex right at the water's edge in Kokkini Hani, a few miles to the east of Iraklion. The accommodation is simple but pleasant.

If you want to play Ham Radio from Crete, this could be a simple way to do it. Manos has a Windom antenna for 80m to 10m together with verticals for 50 and 144MHz. A Zetagi 30Amp power supply is provided, but you need to bring your own rig, together with any microphones or keyers that you want to use. The shack is located in a separate part of the apartment complex, so you will be able to operate without keeping your travelling companions awake, should you so choose !
The antenna seemed to perform well, particularly at HF with openings into North America and Japan being common place. Europeans are loud on all bands of course.
If you have a CEPT licence, nothing could be simpler. You just turn up and operate ! Bear in mind that the CEPT licence does not entitle you to operate on 50MHz, but as Manos holds a permit for the band, you may well be able to operate on the band when he is on the premises.
When you are not operating, you should know that there are a number of excellent and very reasonably priced restaurants within walking distance of the apartments. We particularly enjoyed the "Elotia" and "Palace" restaurants. Watch out for the cats and make sure you feed them !
