RESULTS!
Team YO! Started off the 2001 Season and made their ProRally debut at the Sno*Drift Pro Rally, held in Atlanta, MI in Michigan's Northern Lower Peninsula on January 27th. A few inches of fresh snow had fallen the night before the rally, putting a nice layer on top of the glare ice that had been forming for weeks in the area. This combination made for a slippery, treacherous rally that claimed it's fair share of cars sliding off into the snow banks or trees.
'Oskar' was no exception, as the team found themselves nose first in a snowbank on SS1. About half a minute was lost getting out of the bank. The team's luck held out until SS5, when the team came over an icy crest with too much speed and put the car deep into a bank that took about 10 minutes of digging and rocking to get back out of. Continuing on, the team had a VERY close encounter on SS7 at one of the most difficult turns in the rally. A 1/2 mile straight that ended on a steep downhill, off-camber 90 degree left turn with a large hole in the road right after the crest. Having run the stage once already, the team knew it to be very icy as well.
Coming up to the turn, Scott Harvey Jr. and Jeff Hribar had caught up to the team and were right behind them as they went over the hill. The hole caught the front end of 'Oskar' and flipped the car sideways across the road, halfway down the hill. Knowing that Scott was right behind them, the team braced themselves for the impact. Fortunately, Scott wisely took the crest slow, saw the car, and managed to stop with the two cars side-by-side across the stage. The slight impact knocked 'Oskar' out from the middle of the road, but with the car pointed backwards! Since there was no immediate place to turn around, Jerry had to put the car in reverse, and backed-up down the stage to find a place wide enough to turn the car around and continue.
At the mid-point service of the rally, the service crew found that at least one, and maybe two, cylinders were not firing under the hood. Being about 10 minutes down, the team decided to just drive through the rest of the rally for the finish. In the ProRally, the team placed 33rd overall, and 4th in G5. The team also entered both ClubRallys, and took home a 21st overall, 4th in G5 in the Sno ClubRally, and a 19th overall and 3rd in G5 in the Drift ClubRally.
