
RESULTS!
Team YO! Returned to the northern woods of Minnesota for their 3rd and 4th rallies of the season. The 10,000 Lakes and Paul Bunyan's Ride ClubRallys were held in Bemidji, Minnesota on August 25th and 26th in conjunction with the Ojibwe Forests Pro Rally. This was the team's second trip to Minnesota, having run the Headwaters Club Rally in May on many of the same roads.
The 10,000 Lakes Rally started out on a hot Friday evening. The first stage was 12-1/2 miles long, and the temperatures caused overheating problems with a few teams. Contributing to the problem was that we were running with the night lighting installed, which blocks some of the airflow through the radiator. Team YO! finished the stage with the temperature gauge firmly in the red, but a stop-and-go service on the transit allowed us to cool off. A misjudged turn into a dirt bank on stage 4 caused some minor damage to the right front of the car, and then oversteering on a downhill turn found the team parked sideways across the stage, losing a few seconds at each incident. At the service break after stage 4, it was found that the power steering pump had eaten some of it's innards, but feeding it fluid through the rest of the night kept it going. The team pulled into the finish at 2am, to find themselves in 5th place in class, missing out on 4th by only 0.12 minutes.
The Paul Bunyan's Ride Rally on Saturday started off with a short 1/2 mile rallycross stage at the Bemidji Motor Speedway. The team ran a respectable 0.71 in front of a large crowd of spectators. It was then off to the forests for 2 stages before pulling into service at the Ranch. Following the service, another short spectator rallycross stage at the Ranch was next. The team ran the mile-long stage in only 2.03, a time that beat most other Club Rally teams, and many of the Pro Rally teams as well. Three more stages in the forests brought the team back to the Ranch for service and another rallycross run. Having secured third place in class at this point, the team backed off for the last two stages to finish for the evening. However, a three minute penalty on the Halley/Burton-Weinman team was enough to put Team YO! into second place for their first-ever podium finish.
