But right now, there are too many things that can be done on a CD-ROM that can't yet be handled consistently on The Web.
Smooth transitions.
Great graphics.
Nice audio backgrounds.
Elements that don't chunk out on you, or at least not too much.
The issues of bandwidth are, well, issues. What modem is being used by the majority of the installed base? Will various machines be able to take what you're trying to dish out? As a writer/designer, I know that almost anything I want to happen in my CD-ROM titles can be done. Not so with The Web.
But, times they are a-changing, and I doubt it will take 10 years, or even 5, for technology to offer us a very different picture of what's possible on The Web, and change what it means for the CD-ROM market.
