I
will be making various utilities, in various states of completion, available on
this page.
I would hate for there to be any disincentive to people sharing their setups
,
so here is a preliminary version of my
Show Setup Utility [6K .ZIP]. As yet there is no
documentation - it just displays the setup information from a single car setup
file (.CSx) which you specify on the command line. You will be
pleased to know that if you redirect the output to a file (e.g. showset
race.csh > race.txt), the setup information will be sent to the file,
but the vanity banner will not!

I plan to add the ability to show the setup information from a hot lap (.HLx)
file, and also to extract this to a separate setup file; unfortunately this has
hit a few snags, so please don't hold your breath! I will also look into an
option to permanently remove setup info from the hot lap file.
Samuli Takala ("tax") has
written a TEXT2SET utility which
will convert back from the text file to a loadable setup file.
Due to the strange lack of a menu item in the game to alter the length of a
quick race, I have created a
Quick Race Length Utility [8K .ZIP]. Full
documentation is in a .TXT file in the .ZIP. I have
tested this on European (English) v1.0b GP2, and it has been reported to work on
both the German and the US versions.
Note that for longer quick races, the game's automatic fuel calculations may give you an inappropriate amount of fuel at the start; to avoid this, pick "Use Car Setup" for "Pitstop Strategy" on the "Drive Options" menu.
Here is an amusing Dancing Car [27K .ZIP], produced by hex editing ridiculous values into the setup file. Load the saved game, return to cockpit and hit R to see the replay. Then try to drive it!
