Directions to Beach House

From RTP Area (and points north)  - About 190 miles, three hours, without stops (NOTE:  new changes due to road construction in 2006):  

  1. From RTP, drive on I-40 E. towards Wilmington, about 130 miles.  (from points north, take I-95 to I-40, then continue with the directions below).  We often stop in Warsaw for food/gas.
  2. Take Exit 416.  This is the new I-140 loop that will go around Wilmington, but it only goes a short way.
  3. I-140 ends at US421.  Take US421 south and pass the USS NC battleship.
  4. Take the US-17 ramp towards Shallotte/Myrtle Beach
  5. Merge onto US-17 S, travel about 35 miles
  6. Start looking for highway signs and billboards advertising Ocean Isle Beach right after the NC130 exit for Shallotte.  The signs will also mention an airport.
  7. Turn left onto Ocean Isle Beach Road, travel about 5 miles.  Go through a light.  Williamson Realty is on the left (if you need to pick up a key AND gate pass ).
  8. Continue on this road (it has now turned into Causeway Drive). Cross over a large bridge (intercoastal waterway).  Drive towards the ocean until the street ends.
  9. Turn right onto E 1ST ST.  Drive about 2 miles, veering right slightly at one point.  
  10. ***Look for the guardhouse.  Go past the guard house, make the first right, turn right again, then right again (onto Channel Drive).  Channel Drive turns into Atlantic Way.  We are at 15 Atlantic Way, on the left.

*** If you have the gate key code, turn right BEFORE the guardhouse.  Turn right after the gate onto Atlantic Way.

From Charlotte area (and points west) - about 200 miles, 3.5 hours:

  1. From the Charlotte area, get to East US74 the fastest way.  From Concord/Huntersville, we use I-485 to NC218 to US74.  Avoiding Monroe is usually a very good idea!
  2. Head east on US74.  There are many restaurants and gas stations along the way.  Cross over I-95, continue on US74.
  3. Exit heading south on US701, through Whiteville.  There are also many restaurants and gas stations in town.
  4. Turn left onto NC130, drive east.
  5. Take the US-17 south ramp towards Myrtle Beach  
  6. Start looking for highway signs and billboards advertising Ocean Isle Beach right.  The signs will also mention an airport.
  7. Turn left onto Ocean Isle Beach Road, travel about 5 miles.  Go through a light.  Williamson Realty is on the left (if you need to pick up a key or security pass).
  8. Continue on this road (it has now turned into Causeway Drive). Cross over a large bridge (intercoastal waterway).  Drive towards the ocean until the street ends.
  9. Turn right onto E 1ST ST.  Drive about 2 miles, veering right slightly at one point.  
  10. ***Look for the guardhouse.  Go past the guard house, make the first right, turn right again, then right again (onto Channel Drive).  Channel Drive turns into Atlantic Way.  We are at 15 Atlantic Way, on the left.
