Lactose Product News

Good Stuff on the Web
-
- I haven't updated this page in far too long, but that's
all changing,
-
- You'll see news about some companies who were good enough
to let me know about their products so I could pass the word
along to you.
-
- There'll be a lot more to come, as I catch up with my files.
And my apologies to
those who've had to wait for me to act.
-
- If you've got a site too good not to pass along, email me at
SteveCarper@CompuServe.com
-
- And please assume that all products and company names listed
here are protected by trademarks or service marks.
-
- The old news page is archived at
Lactose
Product Archives.
-
- And now the news.
-
-
-
Country Fresh Farms
-
- Country Fresh Farms makes a dry whey-based, low-lactose
milk product called Swiss Whey D'lite.
-
- It comes in five flavors: milk, chocolate, strawberry-creme,
orange-creme, and no egg nog. There is no animal fat and no
cholestrol in any of these. They
also have 17% more calcium and are 65-70% reduced lactose.
-
- They also come in premeasured cartons for use when traveling
or backpacking.
-
- You can find Country Fresh farms on the web at
www.countryfreshfarms.com/. Or call
1-800-878-0099.

ChReese
-
- Matthew Koch, founder and president of Road's End Organics, recently
sent me an e-mail announcing new additions to his line of ChReese
(pronounced like "trees") products.
-
- ChReese, as the name implies, is a cheese substitute, but one
made from nutritional yeast rather than soy or rice. It's vegan,
lactose-free, and cholesterol and saturated fat free, he says.
-
- There are now three Chreese products: Dairy-Free Whole Wheat
Macaroni and ChReese, Dairy-Free Semolina Shells and ChReese,
and Dairy-Free Wheat-Free Brown Rice Penne and ChReese. You can
also order packets of pure Chreese itself
to use in your own cooking.
-
- ChReese pastas are available at natural foods stores and co-ops
across the country, including the Whole Foods and Wild Oats chains.
-
- For more info, check out their web site at
www.chreese.com or call 877-247-3373.

New BestLife International Site
-
- BestLife International makes two products; one that is a natural
for this list, the other something new in my experience.
-
- SoyGood is the natural, a low-fat soy beverage that also includes
chelated calcium and magnesium.
-
- The new one is BALANCE Plus. It's made from whey solids, but they
claim a difference. To quote, "when we concentrate the whey we rinse much
of the sugar out and leave the highest quality protein known. We replace
much of the lactose with more complex carbohydrates that help stabilize
blood sugar. The result is a product 95% of the people with intolerance can
drink without digestive problems."
-
- They also say that "BALANCE Plus is whey based like mother's milk,
and contains the same perfect array of trace minerals or electrolytes....
BALANCE Plus still contains enough lactose to support health promoting
Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifidus cultures. The calcium and magnesium
ratio is correct and partly chelated for a much higher absorption rate than milk."
-
- All the usual warnings apply on this product and then some. If
anybody does try it, be sure to e-mail me and let me know what you think.
-
- As far as I know, these products are only available on the web. Check
their site at
www.bestlifeint.com.

OatsCream® Expands
-
- Thanks to Don Maxwell, who always keeps me informed about OatsCream®,
the oat-based ice cream alternative, I can report that OatsCream® is now
also available in Wisconsin (Milwaukee and Madison) and Chicago (Evanston)
in addition to parts of Minnesota.
-
- And they have a new PunkinPie flavor.
-
- Their web site can be found at www.oatscream.com
-
-
-
New Diehl Inc. Web Site
-
- Diehl is one of the older players in the non-dairy milk substitute
game. If you live in Ohio or elsewhere in the Midwest, you're probably
more familiar with their brand name of Vitamite.
-
- They've finally put up a web site at
www.diehlinc.com.
The site has info about Vitamite and a new product, Chocomite, and
has a form you can use to request a sample.
-
- Or you can e-mail
diehl@bright.net directly for info.
-
-
-
Gossner's U.H.T. Milk
-
- U.H.T. stands for Ultra High Temperature processing, which allows
milk to be packaged in "brickpacks" like juice boxes and yet stay fresh
without refrigeration until the container is opened.
-
- Gossner's offers their milk in Lactose Free Lowfat and Lactose Free
Lowfast Chocolate varieties, the first of their kind I've ever seen.

- If you're interested, get in touch with them at
