Here's How it Works

I've gathered together the dozens of titles of books in print that should be of greatest interest to people with lactose intolerance, milk allergy, dietary restrictions, or digestive problems in general. Through the auspices of the good people at Amazon.com, you can link directly to these books at their online bookstore.

I list author, publisher, date, availability, number of pages, and list price. Almost every one of these books is available for 20% - 30% off list, however. (You pay the Amazon price: I have no control over that.)

I've also excerpted some comments about the books I found at the Amazon site. Comments are from reader reviews, not Amazon. Use them as guidelines only. When one person rates a book as worth 1 star and another rates that same book as a 5-star wonder, you're pretty much on your own. Books that lack comments don't have reader reviews. Other reviews and comments can be found on the Amazon page.

Example:

Milk Is Not for Every Body: Living with Lactose Intolerance
by Steve Carper
Comments: [Steve's note: My book isn't a cookbook, but it covers absolutely everything else on the subject of lactose intolerance. My highest recommendation. Scout's honor.]
      Facts on File Hardback, 1995 / 330 pages /  List price: $30.75
Milk Is Not for Every Body

Easy instructions:

If you like what you see, click on the book cover next to that book.

When you click on the book cover you will go directly to that book's page at Amazon.com. From there on you use their ordering system.

(If I don't have a cover, a generic "To Amazon" icon will appear instead. Occasionally there will be covers for both the hardcover and the paperback version of the book.)

If you've never ordered a book from Amazon before, you will have to go to their home page to set up an account for yourself. It's mostly painless.

Have your credit card handy. Please use the back button on your browser to return to my bookstore after viewing each book.

As is the case elsewhere in my web site, here's a general disclaimer: I am not necessarily recommending any of these books (except my own, of course), just putting the information about them out in front of you in one convenient location. Only books currently in print are listed. Not listing a book implies nothing about that book. If you don't see a book, ask me about it and I'll take a look at adding it.

I'm not endorsing Amazon.com either. On the other hand, I have ordered many books from Amazon myself and found them fast and reliable. (Shipping times are always approximate and at the mercy of publishers, though.)

Send me your own comments about any of these books at SteveCarper@Cs.com and I'll post them here. If there are any categories you think I've left out, I'll try and add those too.

You can also search for any book that Amazon carries. Just enter your search word or words in the space given below and click on search. You will be taken to a list of all the books that Amazon has that match your request. From then on you can explore to you heart's content. Just click on the back button on your browser to return. (Although if you explore a lot it may take a lot of clicking!)

As I do everywhere in the Clearinghouse, I'll be continually updating and adding to this page. Stop back often. New books of interest come out almost every month.

New books added, December 22, 2007.
