Hello again. On this page we have some facts about the United States of America and about Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Of course, this list is not complete, it just shows very little about each of our home countries. - Sue and Tim were born, and have lived in California until Stefan married Sue and Tim in May 5th of 1996 in Las Vegas (Nevada/USA). Stefan was born in Germany. Sue and Stefan have met on the General Band of CompuServe, now also know as CS. After countless hours on the net and weeks after we met on the net, we met in person in the States. - After our marriage we moved to Germany.

The NATIONAL ANTHEM is >The Star-Spangled Banner<.

The CAPITOL is Washington, D.C.

Largest CITIES are: New York (7.3 Million); Los Angeles (3.4 Million); Chicago (2.7 Million).

ETHNIC Groups: White (83%); Black (12%); Asian (3%); Others (2%).

RELIGIONS are: Protestantism (56%); Roman Catholicism (25%); Judaism (2%); Others (17%).

The FLAG of the USA dates from June 14, 1777. That flag hat 13 alternating red and white stripes and 13 stars on a blue field representing the original states. The continental Congress assigned symbolic meanings to the colors: White signifies Purity and Innocence; Red, Hardiness and Valor; and Blue, Vigilance, Perseverance, and Justice. From 1795 to 1818 additional stars and stripes were added to the flag to represent Vermont and Kentucky. In 1818 Congress reduced the number of stripes to 13 and established the policy of adding an additional star for every new state. The design was not standardized until 1912, and many variations of the flag were common during the 19th century. The current flag dates from 1960, when a 50th star was added for Hawaii, the 50th state.

Bundesrepublik Deutschland

The NATIONAL ANTHEM is the >Third verse of "Deutschlandlied< (Song of Germany).

The CAPITOL is Berlin, with some facilities remaining in the former West German capitol Bonn.

Largest CITIES are: Berlin (3.4 Million); Hamburg (1.5 Million); Munich (1.2 Million).

ETHNIC Groups: German (96%); Others (4%). RELIGIONS are: Protestantism (45%); Roman Catholicism (40%); Islam (2%); Others (13%).

The FLAG of the BRD of the former West Germany was retained when Germany was reunited in 1990. The colors were taken from the uniforms of German volunteers during the Napoleonic Wars, and have intermittently flown over Germany since 1848. The Black represents gunpowder, the Red represents blood, and the Gold represents fire.
