Welcome
This page is for people either new to computing or who have never installed a game patch to Civ2 and/or are not familiar with using compressed files such as the "zip" files used for the Fascist Patch.
After downloading the current Fascist Patch or any of the Varient Patches using the ".zip" file extension, you must "unzip" the file using one of the following programs, depending on your preferance. You can either use the Windows (3.1, 95 or NT) version of WinZip, or you can use the DOS version of PkZip to unzip the compressed files. Both are available in either shareware or trial versions from the highlighted links. After you have one of these programs it's very easy to unzip. If you use WinZip with windows, simply double-click on the Fascist Patch zip file in either File Manager or Windows Explorer to uncompress the file. If you use PkZip in DOS, ensure you have the pkunzip.exe file in your DOS directory (and reboot) then in DOS, type "PKUNZIP FILENAME" to extract whichever file you're uncompressing.
After you've uncompressed the Fascist Patch, there is a detailed file for installation called "READ1ST.TXT". Read this file for further installation instructions. Basically it will state that the uncompressed files for the Fascist Patch must be placed in the main Civ2 directory and the Custom.wav files must be placed in the Civ2 "SOUND" directory. If any custom.wav files need to be created it will also instruct you how to do this as well, so PLEASE read the read1st.txt file if you are confused about the installation!
Still confused? Tell me of your problems by writing to:
