We Believe in...
...mental skills to make right choices
- Perhaps the most frightening problem facing parents today is the possibility that their child might get involved with drugs or other harmful activities. At the Martial Arts Academy we help promote such programs as "Kick Drugs out of America" and "The Orange County Jail Ministry"--both of which stress the message that drugs, alcohol, crime, etc. do NOT make you cool or happy. Our program is designed to promote self-confidence and self-esteem which gives your child the courage to say NO despite peer pressure. Studies show that programs, such as martial arts, that focus on personal achievement are vastly more effective in this area than team sports.
...leadership skills
- The Martial Arts Academy will teach your child about setting goals, taking responsibility, and being a leader. For example, their individual goals are their next ranks--all the way to Black Belt and beyond, their responsibilities are for learning and practicing the material needed to earn their next ranks, and their leadership attitude must be evident in their commitment to come consistently to class and "take charge" of the knowledge they aquire so they can use it in life. Indeed, these are the same qualities that, if mastered, will help children insure their success in school, in college in occupations,--in life.
...personal attention & quality instruction
- While other schools may focus on how many locations or students they have, the Martial Arts Academy places its emphasis on quality instruction and personal attention to its students. Chief Instructor, Sensei John Roe, is committed to excellence and continued learning. When you enroll your child in the Academy, you can feel safe in the knowledge that he or she will be receiving the finest instruction available. The Martial Arts Academy of Laguna Hills was the ONLY school in South Orange County to be recognized by Martial Arts Business Information Magazine as one of the top 100 schools in North America.
...convenience/multiple options
- The Martial Arts Academy is open six days a week and offers convenient schedules for all ages at very affordable rates. On average, a student can participate in unlimited classes for about $12-18 per week. Of course, we never charge so-called "registration fees" and we do not have contracts. We keep our school growing and strong by having the best training and value, not by high pressure sales or "health club" tactics.
...academic achievement
- To encourage students to continually do their best in their school studies and to recognize those that do, the Academy awards all who maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher with an "Academic Achievement" patch for their uniforms. In addition, the Academy has an on-site tutoring service--offered by Maureen Roe,M.A., College Professor and educator--for any student, K-12th grade, who is struggling in math or the liberal arts. Professor "Mo" is also a Black Belt Instructor, and has a unique and highly focused program to help students achieve their FULL potential.
...physical skills for personal betterment
- The Academy will also help your children develop physically by increasing their speed, stamina, strength, balance, coordination and timing. Such abilities will certainly assist them in other physical activities.
...self defense skills
- Unfortunately, we live in a world full of dangerous and undesirable people. The Academy gives children the tools to protect themselves from harm and to avoid getting into harmful situations in the first place. Our program focuses on practical getaway techniques that children can use against larger, adult attackers or molesters which might even save their lives.
...social skills, sportsmanship, & respect for others
- Often times, classes involve team competition or drills. In such cases, students are encouraged to cheer for their own team members BUT ALSO to congratulate the winning team, if it does not happen to be their own. Our school tournaments also require that students (and parents!) always display a good attitude toward competitors and never complain about unfairness or hurl personal attacks. Certainly, these are valuable life skills.
