Competition Results

While the Martial Arts Academy focuses on teaching PRACTICAL street-wise self-defense, many students find they enjoy the challange of testing themselves against other Martial Artists. There are three categories of competition at the Martial Arts Academy. Sparring, which is what most people are familiar with. Kata, which is an individual demonstration of proficiency using moves against imaginary opponents. And Ground-fighting, which is like wrestling, only there are few if any rules and no points. You win by making your opponent submit by "tapping out". The Academy also fields several demo teams, which sometimes compete in self-defense or demonstration catagories.

1997 Spring School Tournament

This was our fourth annual "Easter" tournament, a closed, students only contest which was preceeded by an Easter egg hunt for the little ones. Always a favorite event, and a great time for all.

Charles Millar.

This year was a great one for the students of the Academy who competed in this prestigious open International Tournament. Eleven of the Thirteen students who competed placed in the 1st-3rd elite, and took home some nice trophies. All had a great time, and Sensei Roe is extremely proud to be the teacher of such a great team. Even more importantly, the other competitors and officials commented on the spirit and demeaner of our students, even saying that they were glad to see that there still are schools that teach the true meaning and spirit of the Martial Arts. Now that's something to be proud of.

1996 Fall School Tournament

Some of the happy kids (and parents) after the 1996 fall tournament, posing in front of the Academy. With over 70 competitors at our closed, "students only" contest, the day was a great success!
