Rust Prevention
- Most Scouts rust from backside of the body panels because the factory did not paint the backsides of panels. Anytime you replace any panel or patch, prime paint and undercoat the backside of the sheet metal; also make sure that you use quality galvinized panels. The 'cheap' units are not galvinized and rust quickly
- Much of the rust in scouts comes from the inside out.Due
to poor design,or bad drainage. One common area effected
is the fender bottoms.Debris enters through the cowl vent
under the windshield frame and collects in the fender.
Washing your truck or rain keeps the debris wet or moist.
You can remove much of the crud from you fender bottoms
by removing your kick panel vent and vacuming out the
stuff. To prevent further leaf and tree collections from ruining
your fenders place a screen at the top of fenders in the cowl
vent. This will prevent the big stuff from falling down your
fendersand should restore air flow.
