Body Mount Installation
THE PROPER WAY TO INSTALL A FRONT BODY MOUNT
I recommend the first thing you do is unbolt the fan shroud and
lay it back on the fan. The reason for this is when you are
jacking up the body to remove the original mount the body
will twist and the shroud can catch the fan and can break.
The next step is to remove the headlight and unbolt the inner
fender from the frame.Remove the bolt in the #2 mount (shelf
mount) this mount is located behind the drivers seat as you step
up to the rear seat. Now you can jack up the body and place a
4x4 block of wood between the frame and inner fender.
Proceed to take the remaining body mount out. After removing
clean this very well with a sandblaster or a body grinder. Make sure
that you clean the tabs on the trans tunnel for welding . Insert the
new body mount(make sure) that the tabs go in towards the trans
tunnel , the smooth edge goes toward the inner rocker.
Now that you have this in place insert your wedge on your inner
rocker side. Jack up the body and remove the 4x4 block and let
the truck down onto the body mounts untill there is enough
weight to fit snug . Look at your body mounts and make sure
that they are in place properly and that the wedge is centered.
If the wedge is properly in place you can then weld the body mount in.
You can lower the weight down onto the body bushing .
Use the bushing to line up the place to drill the hole for the
body mount bolt a few notes
* After the mount is in place drill holes through the floor and
plug weld to the lip of the new mount
* Expect to fit up the mount a few times before welding it in
place
* On the drivers side you should remove the E-brake cable
for the quickest installation.
* On the pass side the fuel lines and wiring needs to be
moved for welding.
* Shims may be neccesary to allign door correctly
* Check door hinges for play to help door fit. Open the door
and lift the door at the back on the bottom , up and down
and note if there is any play in hinge)
* There are several methods for welding the mount in.You
can drill 1/4 " holes around the perimeter and plug or
weld the mount in. You can also seam weld at the edges as
well as plug weld the mount to the firewall and the inner rocker.
* Don't forget to seal any edge with seam sealer. I have had
good luck with 3M/s Fast And Firm sealer. It; comes in a
tube for calking guns and runs about $7 a tube
