Location:
LYNXPlunging toward Orion is a formidable opponent, Taurus the Bull. An awesome long-horned creature, he peers with a threatening red eye. His head is lowered in a tumultuous charge. The bull is not as obvious a constellation as Orion, but the "vee" of stars that outline its face is easily recognized. Certainly one of the most ancient of the constel-lations, Taurus is also a familiar sign of the Zodiac. The bright red eye of the bull is actually Aldebaran (al-DEB-a-ran), a red giant star with a diameter 36 times as great as the sun! It is one of the nearer stars of this constellation. One of the farthest is Zeta Tauri (ZAY-tah-TOR-ee). The light we see from this star has been traveling toward us since the time of William the Conqueror. The Bulls back is marked by the bright star cluster "The Pleiades."
