SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 25 JUNE 1999
The weekend weather forecast for last week was cold, rainy and just plain miserable. On Saturday the tennis was rained off and play was stopped for cricket. All that changed on Sunday for the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club Open Show. The Sun Gods shined down on us. It was very pleasing at the show to see all the new faces. Some were attending the show to join in the parade of rescued dogs and other were there to meet other Salukiphiles. I hope they had a pleasant day. Daphne and Tony Parnham were there with their Welfare Stall and would like to thank every one for their support. They made £165.76 which will be donated to the Welfare Fund. Rosemary Lewis was working hard, as usual, and made £84.50 selling the famous 'Saluki' drinking mugs, for Welfare.
Mrs Judy Tantillo from New Jersey donated to the Club a lovely silver broach to raise funds. Some years ago Judy donated garden statues which we also raffled for the club. Helen walked around after lunch and everyone gave generously for the broach. The amount raised was £57.00 and the money will be used by the new Health Committee. The lucky winner was Mrs Karen Fisher who said she never wins anything and therefore didn't bother to look for her Raffle ticket until she had been requested to do so, after no winner could be found.
The Judges for the day were Mrs Liz Cartledge, judging dogs and Mrs Jean Wright judging bitches. The referee was Mrs Sylvia Harms-Cook. BOB, by Referee decision was Mrs M Bryce-Smith's Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic with the RBIS, also by referees decision, his son, Ch Kasaque Hyperion of Saruk. BOS was Mrs K.O. Perkins Ch Ermcote Ilex with Pennyworth. BP was Mr A Rawson's Mumtaz Desdemona. Well done all.
Daphne and Tony Parnham will soon be sending another batch of blood over to Jean Dodds in the USA. This blood is to be tested for thyroid only. If you would like more information on how you may have your dogs tested please contact Daphne or Tony on 01621 772092.
Just one more item from the SGHC Open Show involves objects lost or found on the day. Kay Perkins has a cup belonging to a vacuum flask which she would like to return to its owner. Two serving trays and a quilted dog bed were lost at the show. If you own the cup or have accidentally gained either of the other items please contact Kay on 01795-470918..Michael Williams (101547.503@compuserve.com)
