SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 17 SEPTEMBER 1999

Mrs Elaine Stanmore has sent me the following:

"We had to have our Ch Altaya Messalina put to sleep on 4th August at 14 and a half years, she was the first English champion to be made up from the Bedouin distaff line and she was a really lively oldie still able to jump and gallop until the last week of her life when she went off her food and we discovered that she had a tumour on her spleen with a secondary on the liver. Unfortunately she went downhill in a couple of days, we really miss her." Ch Altaya Messalina was born on 22nd March , 1985 and she was bred by Mrs E. Stanmore. Her sire was Altaya Dasuki and dam Bedouin Irian Jaya of Altaya… She won her first CC at LKA, 1988, judge Mrs E.A. Macdonald; her second CC at Manchester 1989, judge Mrs J Cotterill and her third CC at the Saluki Club Championship Show, 1991, judge, Mrs Jean Hay. Our condolences to the Stanmores.

Last Friday, City of Birmingham held their Championship Show. The judge for Salukis was Mr Norman Ziman. His BOB, DCC and later Group 1 ( Group Judge Mrs Jill Peak) was Mr A. Macdonald's Ch Mabrooka Khamriy with RDCC to Mrs M. Bryce-Smith's Ch Kasaque Hyperion of Saruk. BCC, for her first CC was Ms L Stephen's Bedu Camilla. Her sire was Ch Ubu Roi Al Caliph and dam Ch Classicus Hermione. She was born on 15th September, 1994 and bred by her exhibitor. The RBCC was Mr P and Mrs E. Shimmin's Cranstal Enchantment. Best Puppy was the newly imported Australian Puppy, Mr K and Mrs F Hadfield's Baghdad Foreign Fantasy of Lokhandar (Imp) TAF. Well done all.

Sunday, South East Hound Club held their Open Show. Judging was Ms Maria Pether. The entry was 52. She choice Mr P & Mrs J Mahon's Timaru Valkyrie of Jazirat (Imp) For BOB. RBOB was Mr A Rawson's Mumtaz Desdemona. Best Puppy was Mrs M Parker's Classicus Zahali. Timaru Valkyrie of Jazirat (Imp) was chosen third in the Best in Show Competition.
