SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 11th January 2001
With not a lot happening in the dog show scene, we thought it would be good to review the year 2000. Firstly at the SGHC AGM, held in conjunction with The Limited Show we were told of the death of Mrs Eileen Skelton-Fortune (Daxlore), Mrs Francine Hadfield (Lokhandar) and Mrs Chrisse Schrey-Grandell (El Hamrah, in Finland). Mrs Skelton-Fortune was one of the leading lights of post-war Salukis and her influence through the dogs she exported extends around the world. Francine, joined Salukis not long ago but had made up one champion and had imported two dogs from the Baghdad Kennels in Australia. Chrisse was a wonderful ambassador for Finland and Salukis. She and her El Hamrah Giah won BIS at the World Show in 1987.
Top Saluki for 2000 was Ch El Hamrah Mehrab-Khalifa (imp). He is owned by Michael and Helen Williams and Rosemary Redfern.. He had a spectacular year by gaining his championship, winning the Hound Group and Reserve Best in Show at Border Counties Championship Show. He also won a Hound Group 2 at Welsh Kennel Club.
Top Saluki Puppy was Ann MacDonald’s Mabrook Jayid. He is the son of the imported Baghdad Foreign Affair of Lokhandar(imp) and Ch Mabrooka Miraya. Jayid qualified for the ‘Pup of the Year’ Competition at the Houndshow. He was also BPIS at the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club Championship Show. His sire qualified for this competition in 1999.
Top Stud Dog is Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic, owned by Marie Bryce-Smith. He is a qualifier for the Veteran of the Year Competition winning at The Welsh Kennel Club.
Top Brood Bitch and joint Top Brood Bitch Hound is our own Ch Kasaque Eve. Her second and final litter was to Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic through which the winning points were accumulated.
The Final accolade for 2000, is Top Breeders. They are Michael and Helen Williams of ‘Kasaque’.
Crufts 2000, saw Pauline Kendall’s Ch Gulzar Al-Mutakabbir win the Hound Group.
At the Houndshow, the imported Timaru Valkyrie of Jazirat (imp) owned by Joanne and Paul Mahon won Reserve Best in Show.
We said good-by to Eric and Doreen Stansfield and their Ishieya Salukis. They are now settled in Australia and becoming keen gardeners, while continuing their Salukiphilia. If I have forgotten something, please let me know.
