SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 10TH MARCH, 2000

You will probably be reading these notes during the Crufts weekend. We wish everyone good luck. Every year we complain bitterly about Crufts. It is so busy around the Saluki ring, which is usually tucked away in a nice quiet corner, that we find it impossible to escape, even for a few minutes. There are so many trade stands to tempt one but unless you come dog-less, it seems impossible to have time to view even a fraction of them. Not to mention the crowds!!! However, through it all, I still think that Crufts is the greatest dog spectacle in the world.

Last Saturday, The Hound Association of Scotland, held their Championship Show. The judge for Salukis was Mrs Carla Molinari from Portugal. As Salukis were scheduled to be second in the ring after Min Wire Dachshunds, we expected a long wait before our turn. To our delight our judging started before noon and we were finished at around 1.00 p.m.. As things turned out, most of the competitors were from Southern England and they would end up spending hours on the M6 motorway because of an oil tanker jack-knifing earlier in the day. Unfortunately, I think the police decided that it was easier to keep the cars on a stationary road than divert.

Back to the show, BOB, BCC for her 2nd CC was Mr P & Mrs E.A Shimmin's Cranstal Enchantment. RBCC went to our own Kasaque Harina. DCC, for his 1st CC was Mr P & Mrs J Mahon's Timaru Valkyrie of Jazirat (IMP).Valkyrie was born on 30th April 1997 in the U.S.A.. His breeder is Mrs L Brabyn and his sire is Am Ch Timaru Zephyrus and dam Am Ch Lorrequer Escapade at Timaru. RDCC was Mrs M. Bryce-Smith's Mumtaz Moon Magic. Best Puppy was Mrs T. Moore's Lusaki Sola Sharif of Adari Naf Taf. Well done all.

Mrs Kay Perkins has kindly forwarded details of the entry of the Limited Show which is to be held on 19th March 2000 at Weeks Drive Community Centre in Slough, Berks. Dogs (judged by Miss J. Casemore) 25 making up 27 entries with 10 Not for Competition. Bitches (judged by Mrs J Mahon) 30 making up 34 entries with 9 Not for Competition. There will be no lunch break as The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club AGM will follow the judging.
