SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 5 NOVEMBER 1999

In the notes of last week I did not have the Best Veteran and Best Puppy at the SGHC Ch. Show. John Hudson has kindly forwarded that information: "BVIS was Pauline Everton's Ch Bishr of Kasra and BP was Mavis Roberts' dog Classicus Zedekiah." He went on to say that "This was Doreen Stansfield's last public appearance before leaving for Oz and the President presented her with a pair of crystal goblets, inscribed to her and Eric, from the Club. She was also given a bouquet of flowers and the celebrations continued with wine and some rather scrummy cake. Doreen has now resigned from the Committee and the next person on the ballot, namely Sheila Harmer, has been asked to take her place." We all wish Doreen, Eric and all the Salukis good luck in their new home!

We received a note from the Chatos, namely, Ron, Paula, Hannah and Aaron saying how much they enjoyed meeting and visiting with everybody at Richmond.

Also in last weeks notes we had a very interesting letter from Mr Ken Bouden regarding a show he judged in the 1950s. He referred to a beautiful bitch which he became besotted with, when he judged her. She was named Burydown Emina. We contacted Tessa Abbott about this bitch, whom, by the way was a silver grizzle. She was sired by Ch Mihjan Kodoma and her dam was Burydown Inshallah (Burdyown Uki x Salome Anida). She was born on 29th June 1954. She never became a champion but her sister, B. Elishama, owned by Hope did become a champion. One of that litter went to the late Arthur Westlake and his wife Anita. Mrs Westlake still exhibits Chows under the Bayton prefix. Two others from the litter went to live with the late Gwen Ballantyne. Elishama went missing in the Moors of Scotland and managed to survive through her own devices for two weeks before she was found.
