Stenara is a Brazillian kennel located in Sao Paulo, owned by Zorana and Radmilla Bielovic. The Kennel is also represented in the USA by Luiz Aoki who is located in Chicago along with several Stenara Afghan Hounds. The Kennel was founded in 1979 commencing with Grandeur lineage foundation stock. The foundation lines have been developed over several generations via a careful breeding program of linebreedings and inbreedings.
Stenara also worked with IIdefonso Pessoa Monteiro and Angelo Leme Cavailheiro of the Ziana Kennels to develop and improve the quality of the Afghans. Ziana made relevant imports including; Zardin's Zoroaster, Westhill Infashiana of Zardin, Willowmoor Ziana Infashiana, Willowmoor Wizard (Chordahyer's Chompahee x Balthazar Song of the Wind) co-owned with Mr. Dennis Sprung, and Willowmoor Ziana Capeta. They broke down their partnership around 1985-6. A few years later Guilherme Vianna associated to Ildefonso in the kennel, and other imports were made, such as Jubilan Osbourne (co-owned with Michael Strockbine), Coastwind Conga, and Memphis Mosaic. Ildefonso died about 3 years ago, so now some of Ziana dogs are with Guilherme and some in co-ownership with Mrs.June Matarazzo (Willowmoor Afghans). So, it is right to say that Ziana Kennels was lldefonso Pessoa Monteiro and Angelo Leme Cavalheiro in the beggining, but today Ziana Kennels is Ildefonso ("in memorian") and Guilherme Vianna.
The Stenara kennel has achieved great success in Brazil and as recent as 1995 were the top Afghan Breeders of Brazil, as well as being top breeder of Sao Paulo, and indeed, 3rd top breeder, all breeds in Brazil. The pedigrees are very interesting and reveal the careful breeding program and the influence of Ziana bloodlines in the bloodlines. I am grateful to all at Stenara for providing me with some very interesting South American Afghan pedigrees, and in particular to Luiz for providing me notes on various kennels which I will publish here in due course. I started to research the pedigree of Brazillian and PanAm Champion Carnival Ziana Lightening Bolt, then noticed he had a daughter Gr Ch PanAm Ch Stenara Maggie Noir so I ended up studying both of Maggie Noir's parents lines..Click here to view pedigree.
First of all a quick look at the pedigree, then we will dig deeper. Maggie Noir's inbreeding is within the average range at 17.9 percent, of which Willowmoor Ziana Capeta accounts for 6.25, Zardin's Bar Kochba 4.6 and Infashia and Shirkhan of Grandeur each with 1.7. So these four common ancestors account for the majority of the inbreeding, the remainder coming from Mecca, Akaba and Cadburyhill lines..
The Sire's (Lightening Bolt) inbreeding summary is on the lower side of the average at 8.2 percent of which Infashia and Shirkhan each contribute 2.5 percent, just over half the total between them, the remainder coming from Mecca and Akaba lines.

The Dam's (Sunshay Bluegirl) summary is similarly low average at 10.5 percent with 6.2 coming from Zardin's Bar Kochba, 2.5 from Shirkhan and 1.03 coming from Infashia, remainder coming from Grandeur and Crown Crest lines.
There's four ancestors which are particularly important in inbreeding terms - (1) Willowmoor Ziana Capeta because he is the ancestor who contributes most to the inbreeding summary. Capeta is low/average inbreeding but shows 7.3 percent inbreeding to Infashia of Grandeur via his sire Bar Kochba with further Infashia contributions coming from some of the Mecca ancestors and Cadburyhill Infashia Image. (2) Bar Kochba is a son of Infashia of Grandeur and shows 7.8 inbreeding back to Shirkan of Grandeur. Bar Kochba actually appears twice in the sire's side and three times in the dam's side of a five generation pedigree. He influences the pedigree indirectly via his son Capeta (who is a common ancestor and counts accordingly, and has precedence as contributor to Kochba in this instance) then he influences directly via other routes, in particujlar behind Willowmoor Ziana Infashiana, behind Zardin's Zoroaster and behind Westhill Infashiana of Zardin. (3) Infashia and (4) Shirkhan of Grandeur occur quite a lot in this pedigree and their influence is both indirect through common sibling/ancestors and direct by virtue of other breedings in the pedigree.

There are some interesting breedings within the pedigree. Take a look at Dragonfly's King Tutan Kamen in the third generation on the dam's side. Kamen achieves a high inbreeding score of 41 percent and is in fact out of a father/daughter mating on an inbred line. Close by on the dam's side of the pedigree is a half brother/half sister mating which produced Ziana Malekaper. Two of of the offspring from these inbred lines were mated to produce Stenara Infashiana - but this was an outcross and diluted level of inbreeding, in fact Stenara Infashiana was mainly inbred to Shirkan of Grandeur at 3.7 percent. Another interesting observation is Zardin's Zybele of Infashia (behind Coastind Obsidian) as she is is littermate to the aforementioned dog Zardin's Bar Kochba - both of them sired by Infashia of Grandeur.
As is apparent, a lot of the lines go back to Grandeur, in particular Shirkhan, but of importance also - Infashia. Some of the lines go back to the older/pre Grandeur lines too and pick up ancestors such as the US imports Turkuman Nissims Laurel (UK), Ophaal of Crown Crest (Holland), Tanjores Domino (Sweden). The pedigree lines seem to tie up nicely at the back pedigree (5th generation and beyond) and balancing out with the various Grandeur lines.
