STENARA FARAO TUTANKAMON

Stenara is a Brazillian kennel located in Sao Paulo, owned by Zorana and Radmilla Bielovic. The Kennel is also represented in the USA by Luiz Aoki who is located in Chicago along with several Stenara Afghan Hounds. The Kennel was founded in 1979 commencing with Grandeur lineage foundation stock. The foundation lines have been developed over several generations via a careful breeding program of linebreedings and inbreedings.
Stenara also worked with IIdefonso Pessoa Monteiro and Angelo Leme Cavailheiro of the Ziana Kennels to develop and improve the quality of the Afghans. Ziana made relevant imports including; Zardin's Zoroaster, Westhill Infashiana of Zardin, Willowmoor Ziana Infashiana, Willowmoor Wizard (Chordahyer's Chompahee x Balthazar Song of the Wind) co-owned with Mr. Dennis Sprung, and Willowmoor Ziana Capeta. They broke down their partnership around 1985-6. A few years later Guilherme Vianna associated to Ildefonso in the kennel, and other imports were made, such as Jubilan Osbourne (co-owned with Michael Strockbine), Coastwind Conga, and Memphis Mosaic. Ildefonso died about 3 years ago, so now some of Ziana dogs are with Guilherme and some in co-ownership with Mrs.June Matarazzo (Willowmoor Afghans). So, it is right to say that Ziana Kennels was lldefonso Pessoa Monteiro and Angelo Leme Cavalheiro in the beggining, but today Ziana Kennels is Ildefonso ("in memorian") and Guilherme Vianna.
The Stenara kennel has achieved great success in Brazil and as recent as 1995 were the top Afghan Breeders of Brazil, as well as being top breeder of Sao Paulo, and indeed, 3rd top breeder, all breeds in Brazil. The pedigrees are very interesting and reveal the careful breeding program and the influence of Ziana bloodlines in the bloodlines. I am grateful to all at Stenara for providing me with some very interesting South American Afghan pedigrees, and in particular to Luiz for providing me notes on various kennels which I will publish here in due course. As mentioned above, the Stenara breeding program has involved a thoughful balance of linebreedings and inbreedings, and this is apparent from the pedigree for Stenara Farao Tutankamon. Click here to view pedigree. This is very much a South American pedigree, containing as it does names such as Dragonfly, and Ziana, all largely based on Grandeur lines. Interestingly some of the Grandeur lines are the pre-Shirkhan lines. There is also some Dutch and Swedish lineage in the back pedigree coming via the early US ancestors. There is some German lineage in the pedigree of Amhra Sharba (dam of Dragonfly's Baika Vishnu) coming via Baalat von Girgenhoff, registered in DBU - Dog Book de Uruguay. Amhara Sharba (dam of Dragonfly's Baika Vishna ) was an Argentinian bitch and Dragonfly's King Tutankamon ( Stenara's foundation dog ) was also an Argentinian import from the famous breeder/judge Jacqueline Kubat Quiroz of the prefix Dragonfly's. Dragonfly's Vishnu Westwind was the top Hound for 3 years in Argentina during the 70's.

Farao's inbreeding score is 32.6 percent, Dragonfly's King Tutan Kamen and Ziana Malekaper each contributing 6.25 percent, Zardin's Bar Kochba contributing 4.69 percent, Dragonfly's Vishnu Westwind contributing 3.52 percent, the remainder coming from several ancestors, largely of Grandeur lineage. The rate of inbreeding over the last several generations has averaged around 5.5 percent per generation.
Farao is the product of an uncle/niece mating and is bred back to the important ancestor, and perhaps inspiration of the Stenara Kennels - Zardin's Zoroaster who was imported from the US by IIdelfonso Pessoa Monteiro of Ziana Kennels. Zoroaster's sire - Zardin's Bar Kochba is important in this pedigree, not only as the sire of Zoroaster but in his own right. In fact Bar Kochba appears five times in the first five generations of pedigree.
The pattern of linebreeding/inbreeding etc is self apparent. For example, Dragonfly's King Tutan Kamen is an inbred father/daughter breeding. The level of inbreeding is diluted at the next mating by bringing in a Ziana bitch to produce Stenara Zoroaster ( the sire of Farao). A litter sister of Stenara Zoroaster (Stenara Infashiana) was bred into the Willowmoor line and produced Stenara Ziana Mahdi (the dam of Farao). The eventual mating of Stenara Zoroaster and Stenara Ziana Mahdi is an interesting three way interplay of Stenara-Dragonfly-Ziana bloodlines.
