Montessori Nursery
The Children's Montessori Nursery caters for children aged two and a half until they start full time education at school. The Montessori philosophy employs a child centred learning approach, where each child is individually assessed and encouraged in all aspects of the nursery day, in an environment which is child sized and friendly.
Children are supported in developing into Activities are designed so that children can learn through exploration which encourages them to absorb more without inducing stress. The working environment is controlled hut relaxed because it is recognised that happy children will always work better! With a staff to child ratio of 1:4 children get all the necessary help to develop their academic and personal skills their own pace. There are two class rooms, each with their own kitchen and toilet facilities and a garden which is used for a range of outdoor activities and play. The equipment used is 100% Montessori and covers an extensive curriculum which includes Maths, Music, Science, Information Technology, Reading, Writing, Art, French, Practical Life, Geography and Sensory Development. Within these subjects topics of direct importance to children, such as food and culture, are explored. The children are taken on outings to places of interest and specialist visits to the nursery have demonstrated such diverse topics as bagpipe playing and sheep shearing. There is not an official school uniform, but sweatshirts and sunhats are available bearing the logo:- "I can do it by myself at the Children's Montessori Nursery"
The nursery is situated in Gamlingay,a pleasant village in rural Cambridgeshire. The Montessori teaching philosophy was developed a century ago and is widely used all over the world. Only personal observation can demonstrate how well it works, so visitors are always welcome, although for security reasons appointments must be made in advance. The staff will be pleased to answer any questions you may have and look forward to welcoming you.
