Did you ever wonder how clowns get that great makeup look?
Well, it takes quite some time to achieve that amazing face, many clowns spend at least an hour getting their face just right, especially in the U.S.A where it is customary to not show any skin at all!
Luckily here in the U.K. things are more relaxed. Kevin can get made up in half an hour if he's in a hurry!
First Kevin gets his hair out of the way and sits down with a mirror. Clowns use greasepaint. It takes longer to apply but it looks better, lasts all day, and doesn't run when you get hot!
The first colour to apply is white. This we apply with a finger to get the right shapes. Choose your design to compliment your features, and use existing lines and wrinkles to help the animation.
Clean up the edges of the white where necessary with a tissue and some makeup
remover or oil.
I put on the lines and detail with a brush, we will need to mix a little oil
with the colour to make it brushable. Here goes the red!
When all the red is applied, clean the brush and apply the other colours. Don't get too carried away, - Kevin uses just 3 colours!
OK, the makeup is on, but it's very wet and greasy. The next step will take care of this....
Time to apply some powder! Use Talc or Cornflour. Kevin keeps his in an old sock which he whacks himself in the face with..
Nearly there! All that needs to be done is to brush off the excess powder and spray with a little water to set the whole effect
There! Ready for anything. Kevin, you handsome Brute!
