Introduction

This web site is intended to give English speaking people a resource for finding information on the web concerning the Japanese language, history and culture. Most of the sites referenced contain just English language text on the subjects covered so it is not necessary to have a kanji based browser to make use of this although it would be useful. If you need software for handling kanji see the software page.

I have only included sites that can be viewed effectively with a simple browser running in a secure mode; i.e. no sites that rely on Java or ActiveX features are included.

When I started this site there were very few such resources on the web. However over the past few years a number of very good sites have sprung up. As a result I am limiting future development to the language section as there does not seem to be another site the goes into as much detail on this area. If anyone does have a site they wish to have include in any of the other sections I will be happy to oblige but I will not be actively searching for such sites.

Yes, but what does "FargleWeb" actually mean? While going through all the pages of relevance to this site I often found it hard to distinguish between some sites with similar content. I decided that my site should have a distinct and memorable name. This will also aid finding references on the web using a search engine. So if you add a link to my page please label it with "FargleWeb" - note: it is one word.

I can be contacted at the e-mail address on my Home Page.
