Asahi Shimbun is part of a "multimedia corporation of the new
millennium". The on-line newspaper section has a number of current report
about Japan and world events affecting Japan.

The Chubu region is centred around Nagoya in Aichi prefecture. Their local
newspaper has a good web site which gives a view of life a regional centre. The
site seems to be limited to 1997, but there is an archive for the whole year.
The articles are available in both HTML and PDF formats.

This site contains a large set of short biographies of assorted famous
Japanese people. There are several hundred entries group into categories,
mostly from popular culture ( pop music and TV ) and sports but there
are some politicians and writes. More are being added all the time.

Japan Echo is "An interactive Journal for Informed Opinion". It is
published once every two months and contains English traslations of a variety
of, mainly political, Japanese articles.
Each issue contains about a dozen aricles which are available in both HTML and
PDF formats.

This is a good site with lots of up to date new reports and editorials
updated daily together with weekly summaries and an archive covering the
highlights over the past few of years. There are also special sections on
computers and other special topics.

This looks far more like a normal newspaper. It is an English version of a
Japanese on-line newspaper. It covers all the nitty-gritty of daily life from
corruption to weird cults.
