Jasper N. Haines' Scrapbook

Locomotive Development on the
Lehigh Valley Railroad 1855-1936

The scrapbook assembled by J. N. Haines contains 56 photos of locomotives used on the Lehigh Valley, starting with the first locomotive built for the line in 1855. Captions are reproduced as found in the scrapbook. The scrapbook closes with a set of tables showing the locomotive classes in service on January 1, 1937, and the evolution of roster size over time.

Due to space considerations, we have left out a few photos that more or less duplicate others; a total of 53 are displayed. The photo mounting corners are visible in each image; due to the delicate state of the scrapbook, we have not attempted to remove the photos from the pages.

Photos were scanned at 150dpi resolution, resulting in images of approx. 750 x 500 pixels when displayed on screen. Original size of each image is approx. 3 x 6 inches.
