Many chemicals are stored in tanks and used in the
production of rayon. A water heat exchanger is to the right with
a pile of Anhydrous Sodium Sulfate (a waste Product from the
rayon process) and power plant ash is to the rear.
The AVTEX power plant burnt up to 1000 tons of coal a
day. The Norfolk and Western Railroad delivered up to 20 hoppers
a day with cars spotted using AVTEX's own engines. The Maryland
Southern hoppers date back to Jim Brewer's earlier freelance
railroad
This machine shop is just one of many support
buildings located around the AVTEX Rayon plant. The building
behind it is the pipe shop. The building on the left is the
Power Plant Generator Building. Most structures in the rayon
plant have interiors.
