Welcome to afterthought...'s Practice Space

With Your Host: Paul Pietromonaco

Our Latest Demo Available On-Line! - See Below!

Welcome to aftherought...'s practice space! As you can see from our "photo" above, the landscape is pretty bleak here. (Although the trees are groovy...) The nice thing is that since there aren't any buildings, there's nobody to complain about the noise....

So, feel free to browse around, download some stuff, etc. Of course, all sounds and images are Copyright (c) 1996,1997 by afterthought... All rights reserved.

About afterthought...

afterthought... is an alternative rock music band that happens to be from Seattle. Even though we've been known to wear flannel, and occasionally play "grungy", we have quite a different sound than most of our contemporaries. (That's probably because I use words like "contemporaries", instead of "Budweiser".) We started out as a band that wrote classic pop songs (me) that also jammed like the Grateful Dead (Colin) as backed by the Beatles (Young). From there, we added (Damon) "The Incredible String Sound Machine", so now we have quite a detailed, rich sound.

We've been working on a series of new recordings at our friend John's (guitarist for another Seattle band, SuperDeluxe) studio that reflect this new sound. Hopefully, we'll have these recordings mixed down by the end of this month. We'll keep you posted.

afterthought... is: (L to R) Colin Naylor (bass), Paul Pietromonaco (vocals, guitar), and Young Kim (drums, vocals). (Damon LaPoint (lead guitar) wasn't a member when this photo was taken so you don't get to see what he looks like. Since this photo, I've grown my hair long, Colin cut his short, and Young's has remained the same. So, obviously, we need a new photo!!!)

Where we're playing next...

Well, that's a tough one. Nothing scheduled as of yet. But when we get the new demo done, we'll start introducing the material at local shows in Seattle. Keep your web browser pointed here for further updates.

On-Line Demo Here

Well, we're still trying to get the main demo tape together, but in the interim, we've been experimenting with a four track recorder in our practice space. Since Damon and I are graduates of Shoreline Community College's Audio Engineering program, the experiment came out quite a success. The demo is three songs long, and is completely on-line.

A slight technical note: These files are in the ever popular MPEG Audio Layer 2 format. To listen to them, you'll need to use ActiveMovie (which is available for free from Microsoft for Windows 95 machines) or a third-party MPEG audio player. (MAPLAY is a really good stand-alone player for Windows. It's also free! I'll put a link to a download site here as soon as I can.)

NOTE:If you're using Netscape and Windows 95, download and install Active Movie. Then click on the link below. When promped by Netscape to pick an Application, browse for MPLAYER.EXE. This will automatically connect to Active Movie.

Each file is approximately 2 Megs in size - However, they're CD quality, and Active Movie will play the files dynamically as they download.

Track 1: Going to Lisa's

Track 2: Not My Time

Track 3: The Light

Our First Release

This is our first release. Three people, three songs, three completely different styles. But, you don't have to listen to me describe them. Thanks to the internet, you can listen to them yourself. Take a quick listen by clicking on a link below, and see what you think. We've still got a few copies of this tape left. If you're interested, you can order the tape from me, Paul Pietromonaco, and have your very own copy! The cost is $5.00 US. ($4.00 + $1.00 P&H). When you e-mail me, I'll e-mail you back with all the details of how to order, etc.

Halo - Excerpt (295k Sun Sound file)

Aqaba (Coming Soon!)

Other "PsychoFunkySuperFolkyGroovinStupid" Downloads

Here's a rough mix from our forthcoming demo recording. It's called "In Her Head" (313k Sun Sound file).

We've been working on an entire new set list! Part of this project has included the song "Going to Lisa's" (574k Sun .au file 11kHz). Lately, I've been taping band rehearsals, and this is the latest version of the song we have done. Compare/contrast it to the original version below:

It's a excerpt of one of my demos. It's called "Going to Lisa's" (476k Sun .au file 11kHz)., and it's a result of me experimenting with an empty rehearsal room, everybody's instruments, and a twin-track recorder. If I can swing the download space, I'll post more of it in the future.
