Paddock at the Pony Races on the NP Homepage was painted in oils, and was shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition of 1936. One of the jockey's colours has been identified as belonging to George Cloke, a leading member of the Pony Turf Club, so it is possible that they commissioned it. It is believed to have hung in the Stewards' Room on the course. The painting is currently at the St Hellier Galleries, Jersey in the Channel Islands. The painting above was commissioned by John Waddell and hung in his home, Beenham House. It is now in Australia. Another painting of the course by Cooper also exists.

Born on July 5th in Tettenhall near Wolverhampton, Alfred Egerton Cooper was best known as a painter of portraits,(including King George VI and Churchill), although he also painted sporting subjects and landscapes. He served in World War I where the sight of one eye was damaged by chlorine gas. He lived most of his life in Chelsea and exhibited in London at the Leger and the Leicester galleries.

His best known racing scenes include a pair of the Ascot Gold Cup and Derby Day - 77 years after Firth which was exhibited at the Summer Exhibition of 1934. Page top
