Sussex Closed Competition, Burgess Hill, 21st September 2003

A team of 16 from Sussex Springers attended the recent Sussex Closed Trampolining Competition, which was held this year at the Arena in Bognor Regis and finished with a substantial haul of trophies. About 50 competitors from 4 Sussex clubs took part in the competition and Springers came away with three 1st place, two 2nd place and three 3rd place finishes in the individual competition and three team 1st place medals. There was also a Synchronised Pairs competition from which the Springers emerged with a 1st and a 2nd place.

Due to the nature of closed competitions, trampolinists of very different experience and ability are often competing against each other, there being just a Boys and a Girls section for each age group, with no grading structure. Some of the club's less experienced competitors achieved very good results against those with far more experience.

Megan Comber took 1st place in the Under 13 Girls section, winning by a considerable margin and the club's other 1st place finishes were for Gavin Burrill in the Under 18 Boys section and Amy Beard in the Under 18 Girls. Taylor Pierce came 2nd in the Under 11 Boys and Stephanie Paul 2nd in the Under 18 Girls. Third place finishes went to Emma Carroll in the Under 11 Girls, Chris Savory in the Under 11 Boys and Jasmine Broadley in the Under 15 Girls.

Aside from the trophy winners, Charlotte Lee and Emma Orlando finished 4th and 5th in the Under 11 Girls. Skye Balnave was 4th, Lauren Ward 10th, Olivia Lourens 12th and Rose Salvage, in her first competition, was 15th, all in the Under 13 Girls section. In the Under 15 Girls, Kayleigh Nisbett was 4th and Chelsey Pierce 5th.

Springers also entered three teams in the competition, in the Under 11 Girls, Under 13 Girls and Under 15 Girls and they all won their sections.

In the Synchronised Pairs competition we had two pairs involved in the Under 18 section, with Megan Comber and Jasmine Broadley winning the competition and Stephanie Paul and Amy Beard finishing in 2nd place

All in all, this was a very enjoyable competition and a good day out by the seaside, with a commendable medal haul and a great deal of experience gained by everyone.
