Grade 2 National Competition, Southend Leisure Centre, Southend, 8th February, 2004
Sussex Springers Trampoline Club now has its first National Competitor, as Megan Comber took part in the Grade 2 Competiiton in Southend at the weekend. This was the first Grade 2 event of the new season and 350 competitors took part from about 80 different clubs. This was also Megan's first Grade 2 competition and she was entered in the Under 13 Girls section. In a group of 45, Megan came 25th with a score of 51.1, which represents a significant achievement as it means that Megan has achieved the score required to enable her to continue to compete at Grade 2. More importantly, she has qualified to attend the Grade 2 National Finals in November, being held in Bournemouth this year. On a day when everything was completely new to her, Megan performed well under a lot of pressure.
On a more personal level it is only proper that an act of great sportsmanship, should be recognised. Two of Megan's competitors went out of their way to help her, when Megan, unaware of one of the rules of the competition, missed one of her warm-ups. The actions of Myffy Cairns and Nicole Murray from Sussex Martlets, also taking part in the event, reflect very well on themselves, their club and the sport in general.
In this day and age of cut-throat competition it was a refreshing and welcome act of generosity.
