South East Regional Closed Competition, Ashford, Kent, 19^th October 2003

A team of 10 from Sussex Springers Trampoline Club attended the recent SE Regional Closed Competition in Ashford and had a fantastic day out, as they returned with three individual 1^st place trophies, two 2^nd and two 3^rd places. A total of 305 competitors from 14 different clubs took part in the competition, which included entries from Grade 6 up to Grade 1. To get 7 out of 10 competitors in the top 3 of their groups represents a terrific achievement for the club.

Maddy Heath, in the Under 9 girls Grade 5 and Amelia Russell, in the Under 15 Girls Grade 5, won their sections for the first time, while Megan Comber made it a hat-trick of wins in the Under 11 Girls Grade 3. Taylor Pierce, in the Under 9 Boys Grade 5 and Amy Beard in the Under 15 Girls Grade 5 were the second place finishers. Jasmine Broadley, having made the podium at her last competition, showed that success breeds confidence as she repeated the trick this time. She finished 3^rd in the Under 13 Girls Grade 5 section and Stephanie Paul also finished 3^rd, in the Under 15 girls Grade 5, again in her second successive competition.

Chelsey Pierce, Lauren Ward and Hannah Thomas were the other Springers, with Chelsey being particularly unlucky to finish outside the top 3, as she finished 4^th to Jasmine in the Under 13 Girls Grade 5 with exactly the same score. The rather complicated countback scoring system meant that Jasmine just pipped her for a trophy, but Chelsey can consider herself to be joint third. Hannah has now started to recover her confidence and this was a much more composed performance and Lauren can be pleased with her continuing improvement, as she is still very new to the sport.

For the coaches and supporters of the club, one of the memories of the day must be the sight of Sussex Springers occupying all three positions on the podium for the Under 15 Girls Grade 5 section as Amelia, Amy and Stephanie completed a clean sweep of trophies - and took home the Team Gold medals for good measure!
