Sussex Closed Competition, Burgess Hill, 21st September 2003

A team of 16 from Sussex Springers attended the recent Sussex Closed Trampolining Competition, which was held this year at the Triangle in Burgess Hill and finished with a substantial haul of trophies. A relatively small field of 56 competitors from the 4 Sussex clubs took part in the competition and Springers came away with two 1st place, three 2nd place and two 3rd place finishes in the individual competition and two team 2nd place medals. There was also a Synchronised Pairs competition from which the Springers emerged with a 2nd and two 3rd places.

Due to the nature of closed competitions, trampolinists of very different experience and ability are often competing against each other, there being just a Boys and a Girls section for each age group, with no grading structure. This makes some of the results even more pleasing as the club had several very inexperienced competitors who achieved most commendable placings and scores.

Megan Comber's 1st place in the U13 Girls was probably the performance of the day, but Dan Turner is to be congratulated for taking 1st place in the Under 18 Boys section, in his first competition for the club. Taylor Pierce came 2nd in the U9 Boys and Maddy Heath came 2nd in the U9 Girls, so our younger members are certainly maintaining their standards. Gavin Burrill was 2nd in the Under 15 Boys section and continues to improve. Third place finishes went to Chris Savory in the Under 11 Boys and Amelia Russell in the Under 15 Girls. First podium finishes for these two and there should be many more to come.

Aside from the trophy winners, Jasmine Broadley once again narrowly missed out on a top three finish, ending in 4th place in the Under 13 Girls and Bronwyn Kitchener finished 4th in the Under 9 Girls in her first competition. Strong placings for Amy Beard and Stephanie Paul in the Under 15 Girls and Chelsey Pierce and Sheniece Pollitt in the Under 13 Girls and valuable experience for several of our younger or less experienced competitors meant that this was overall a very successful competition for the club. Springers also entered two teams in the competition and both the Under 13 team of Megan, Jasmine, Chelsey and Sheniece and the Under 15 Girls team of Amelia, Amy, Stephanie and Eleanor Gray came 2nd in their sections.

In the Synchronised Pairs competition we had two pairs involved in the Under 13 section, with Hannah Thomas and Taylor Pierce coming 3rd and Megan Comber and Jasmine Broadley finishing in 2nd place. A special mention should be made of Hannah Thomas, who fell awkwardly during her Voluntary routine in the individual competition, but still competed well in the Synchronised Pairs. A very brave effort, so well done Hannah! We also had Amelia Russell and Stephanie Paul competing in the Under 25 section and they came 3rd.
