South East Regional Grade 3 - 5 Competition, Gillingham, Kent, 19th January 2003

Sussex Springers returned from Sunday’s SE Regional Grade 3 – 5 Trampolining Competition in Gillingham with a Team Gold Medal and an individual 2nd place trophy in their first competition of the 2003. A total of 319 competitors from 20 different clubs took part and in a very high quality competition a rather nervous Springers contingent nevertheless competed very well.

Taylor Pierce was once again a medallist, gaining 2nd place in the Boys Under 9 Grade 5 section, while the Under 15 Grade 5 Girls (Amelia Russell, Stephanie Paul and Amy Beard) won the team medal in that section.

As well as the medal winners, much improved performances from Jasmine Broadley and Amelia Russell saw them show the kind of ability that the coaches know they possess. Megan Comber moved up to Grade 3 and also into a new age group and showed that she can compete well at that level. Kathryn Hall, came out of her grade 4 section with much credit and Sheniece Pollit, competing for the first time at Grade 5 showed that she can handle the big occasion. Stephanie Paul came within a point or so of reaching the qualifying standard to go up to grade 4 and it’s only a matter of time before she does so. Amy Beard continues to improve with every competition and is also starting to look like a grade 4 qualification will come. Chelsey Pierce is still a relative novice at this standard and she showed once again that she has a lot of potential and Hannah Thomas, in the ever-competitive girls Under 11 group, also displayed great consistency and shows a lot of promise at a very young age.
