LATEST NEWS
In a constant rush to keep up with the latest developments in coaching and the increasing and welcome demands of our club members, Stella Paul is at present taking her High Performance Coach course, using Megan Comber and Kayleigh Nisbet as her "victims". We have also two new Trampoline Coaches in training as Wendy Orlando and Debbie Marchant are attending courses in Portsmouth during January. More news of their undoubted success (no pressure girls!!) will follow as it becomes available.
The recent South East Regional Grade 3 and 4 and Recreational Grade 5 competition saw a very select entry from the club. This particular competition has proven in the past to be far too close to the Christmas and New Year break to properly prepare for, but in this instance it was deemed practical to send a few competitors who were attempting to move up grades. In the event, only Taylor Pierce at Under 11 Grade 4, Jasmine Broadley at Under 17 Grade 4 and Kayleigh Nisbet at Under 17 Grade 3 attended. The scoring was according to the new, stricter method and qualification to the next grade proved beyond practically everyone in the competition, including, unfortunately, our three attendees. It was still good experience and showed the coaches just what is going to be required to prepare our athletes for future events. Jasmine and Taylor in fact both won their groups and Kayleigh was 5th out of 17 in hers, so congratulations to all of them.
The National Schools Trampolining Competition has been ongoing since December and several of the club's competitors were at the Southern Zonal Competition in Enfield on Sunday 22nd January. Pride of place must go to Henry Jacobs who won the Under 11 closed competition and to the Under 11 Girls Closed team of Daisy Marchant, Louise Forman, Emma Carroll and Emma Orlando who also won their competition and qualified to go to the finals in Birmingham at the start of March. It is a particular thrill for the two Emmas and Louise who were a team last year and have now qualified for the finals two year running. The club are very proud of all of them. Megan Comber just missed out on a place at the finals, finishing 4th in the Under 15 Girls Open, while Taylor Pierce was 5th ni the Under 11 Boys Open - a splendid achievement as the open section covers all grades from 4 to 1, Taylor being a Grade 4. Chelsea Pierce also acquitted herself well, finishing 8th in the Under 15 Girls Closed.
Apologies from the editor for the lack of recent updates to this website, but being a coach as well means that I had to use the time I usually set aside for doing website stuff travelling to Seaford for rig sessions with Megan Comber to get her Half Outs organised - Many thanks go to Karen Waddington at Up 'n' Downs Trampoline Club and to Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford for allowing us to make use of the facilities.
Other News from the club:
Results from the Sussex Springers Invitational Grade 6 and 8 and Synchro Pairs Competition on Sunday 20th November have been prepared and shoe-horned onto the site as they were specifically requested by a few people. The results are in the form of an Excel Spreadsheet and can be accessed from here. These results have been fairly roughly formatted but are complete.
The club has recently been awarded a couple of important grants, due largely to the efforts of our fundraising maestros, Alan and Laura Pierce. Details are a bit sketchy at the moment, but it is known that one of the grants is to pay for another set of steps to be used by our ever-expanding special needs section and the other grant is an amount in excess of £4000, to be used for a number of vital pieces of equipment. Exact details of these grants will be posted her when they become available (In other words when I can get Alan to show me the paperwork!)
Time for a quick plea for assistance: If you're reading this page, you must already be vaguely interested - or more than that, hopefully - in the club. Please give a little thought to becoming involved in a material way. Entering competitions means we have to provide - or at least offer - qualified officials. The more competitors we enter, the more officials we need (see here for the rules on how many) . At the moment we are quite a few officials short, meaning three things:
If we can get a few more people involved, they could share the load and might only need to officiate once or twice a year. The club will pay for any courses needed and it will only take up a day of your life about once every two months or less, if there are enough to go round.
Sponsored Charity Bike Ride:
The report on Alan Pierce's marathon cross-England charity bike ride has now been lovingly prepared and can now be accessed from the Sponsors Page if you want to read about what Alan got up to on the three days - with a little "Artistic License" thrown in for the sake of it!!
