Where We Are
The Braintree Liberal Club
The Liberal Club itself runs a wide variety of social and sporting
activities
itself including table tennis and snooker competitiions
Having developed over the centuries Braintree does not have the
street
grid layout typical of twentieth century new towns. Although making it
slightly more difficult for a newcomer to keep their bearings it does
give
the central shopping area a peculiar charm of its own. The Braintree
Liberal
Club is situated slightly outside the main shopping areas which if
anything
makes it easier to find.

Braintree Town Centre
Finding Braintree itself is not too difficult either. It lies in the
heart
of rural Essex and is easily accessible being situated on the
crossroads
of the county's ancient East-West and North-South routes.

What We Do
The Chess Club caters for a wide range of abilities from the novice
upwards.
As well as making it easy for an enthusiast to get a game against
another
human and providing a friendly informal atmosphere where the finer
points
of chess (not to mention chess programs and computers) can be discussed
the club also runs a number of competitions.
These
provide a competitive arena for the development of playing skills
within
the club. Some are also "graded", that is the results are counted
towards
a player's nation-wide chess rating or grade. Further encouragment is
also
provided by the award of Trophies The club
also
currently fields three teams in the North Essex Chess League and
participates
in the annual Braintree and Witham Times Chess competition.
