ANNIVERSARY
REFLECTIONS
Friday 18th -Sunday 20th July 1997: A Celebration in
Flowers and exhibition of the Church's history was held to celebrate
the church's 125th Anniversary.
Over 400 people passed through the church and hall over the
weekend to view the celebration in flowers, which included a
depiction of the life of the Church in Baptism, Sunday School,
Marriage, Funerals, Holy Bible, Holy Communion, Charles Wesley and
the River Dee. In the Church hall there was an exhibition of
pictures, writing and memorabilia of the history of the church over
125 years. A display of church communications over the years from
quill pen and ink to a demonstration of the Church website was very
popular. Click on the small pictures for a full size pic.
CELEBRATION PARTY WEEKEND
The weekend (4th,5th & 6th October) commenced with
anniversary parties on the Friday for the younger children aged from
babies to 7 years. The hall was then taken over by the Shell Club and
friends (7-11 years) for their party with bouncy castle and
anniversary birthday cake. The adults sat down to a Celebration
Dinner at 6 p.m. on the Saturday followed at 8 p.m. by entertainment
by "New Era" a folk ensemble from Liverpool.
Sunday , which was the nearest date to the
actual anniversary, began with a broadcast of "United in Song" from
the church on Radio Merseyside at 8.30 a.m. The Guest Speaker for the
Anniversary was the Reverend Philip Barnett, formerly from Wirral now
a Superintendant Minister in Yorkshire. At the end of the service 2
new communion kneelers made by one of the oldest members Mr Charles
Gillet were dedicated by Reverend Barnett. Afternoon Tea with a large
birthday cake cut by the guest speaker preceded the evening Service
of Celebration, Dedication and Hope.
